I’ve always followed package directions for cooking brown rice and the result is usually mushy. I searched the Net and found this easy method for getting perfect results.
Step 1
Bring water to boil – use four cups per cup of dry rice. Add salt if using.
Step 2
Rinse dry rice under cold running water for 30 seconds, swishing grains around with your fingers.
Step 3
Add rice to boiling water. Stir once. Cook rice over medium heat, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Step 4
Drain rice quickly (10 seconds). Return to pot and let sit covered off the heat for 10 minutes.
Step 5
Fluff with a fork and serve.
Admin Note:
I found this cooking method from “Pinch My Salt” who adapted it from “Saveur” magazine. It works very well! Let me know if you like this method too. I used it with Lundberg Jubilee Gourmet Brown Rice Blend. I wish I’d taken pictures. The above photo from FreeDigitalPhotos.net looks very similar to my results. Even the rice blend I used looks similar to that one.
