Important Role of Posture in Pranayama

There is some specific posture that plays a great role in practicing Pranayam. Each finger of our hands indicates the style of doing these postures. The Thumb finger indicates the sun and Fire, the Index finger indicates air, the Middle finger indicates Sky, the Ring finger indicates Earth and the baby Finger indicates the water. There are eleven postures of Pranayam, each posture-related with the fingers of our hand. Such as – Dhyan mudra means Meditation Posture,  Bayu Mudra means Air Posture, Akash Mudra means Sky posture, Prithibi Mudra means Earth posture, Prana Mudra means Life posture, Apan Mudra, Apan air Mudra, Agni Murda means fire posture, Barun Mudra means Barun air Posture, Siva posture, and Holding Breath Posture.
                  These are eleven types of Postures that play a great role in practicing Pranayam. In this article, we will discuss all the postures, how to practice these, and how it can affect our health and what are the benefits of practicing these Postures.

a) Dhyan Mudra means Meditation Posture
This is the first posture of Pranayam. During the practice of this posture, you have to touch the Thumb finger with the Index finger and keep the other three fingers straight. Practice this posture during morning and evening time up to fifteen times.
Benefit’s of practicing Dhyan Mudra or Meditation Posture
The practice of Meditation posture has some benefits for our health, mind, and body. Such as –
i) It increase the concentration and memory of our mind.
ii) It reduces anxiety and worry.
iii) It prevents sleeping problems.

b) Bayu Mudra or Air Posture
This is the second posture of Pranayam. During the practice of this posture, you have to touch the mount of the venture of the Thumb by the Index finger and have to apply some force. Keep the other three fingers straight. Try to practice this posture for ten to fifteen minutes.

Benefit’s of Bayu Mudra or Air posture 
The practice of Bayu Mudra or Air Posture has some benefits. Such as –
i) It prevent Arthritis, Knee pain.
ii) It also prevents Acidity.
c) Akash Mudra or Sky Posture 
In this posture, You have to touch the mount of the venture of the thumb finger with the middle finger and have to apply some force. Keep the other three fingers straight and fit.
Benefit’s of Akash Mudra or Sky Posture 
i) Practice of Sky Posture may prevent Ear problems and Thyroid.
ii) It also prevents heart problems or disease.

d) Prithibi Mudra or Earth Posture 
In this posture, you have to press on the thumb finger with the help of the ring finger for 30 seconds. You have to practice this posture ten to fifteen times daily.
Benefit’s of Akash Mudra or Earth Posture 
i) Practicing this Posture may prevent the problem of decreasing the weight of the body and reduces the weakness.
ii) Practice of Earth Posture increase and maintain the freshness of our body and mind.
iii) It makes our minds peaceful.

e) Prana Mudra or Life Posture 
In this Posture, You have to keep in touch the head of the baby finger, ring finger, and Thumb finger and keep the remaining two fingers straight for 30 seconds. You have to practice this Posture up to fifteen to twenty times daily.
Benefit’s of Prana Mudra or Life Posture
i) Practice of this Posture may increase the Power of Eye and prevent eye problems.
ii) Practice of this posture also helpful for the patient of insomnia. The practice of this posture may prevent Insomnia.

f) Apan Mudra  
In this posture, You have to hold unite the Thumb finger, ring finger, and Middle finger and touch the head of each other. Keep another two-finger straight.
Benefits of Apan Mudra
i) It reduce the Problems or disease of Stomach.
ii) This posture also helpful for the patient of Heart.
iii) Practice of this Posture also prevent Diabetes and Kidney Disease.

g) Apan Bayu Mudra 
In this posture, You have to unite the ring finger, middle finger, Index finger, and Thumb Finger and have to touch each other. Leave the baby finger and keep it straight.
Benefits of This Posture i) It prevents high blood pressure and headache.
ii) It help the patient of heart to get relief from heart disease.
iii) It also prevents acidity.

h) Agni Mudra or Fire Posture 
In this posture, You have to bend the ring finger and then have to apply some force with the Thumb finger upon the ring finger for 30 seconds. Practice this posture fifteen to twenty times daily.
Benefit’s of Agni-Mudra or fire posture
i) Practice of this posture make our digest system strong.
ii) It reduce the cholesterol in our blood.

i) Barun Mudra
In this posture, You have to touch the head of the Thumb finger with the baby finger for thirty seconds and have to practice this posture fifteen to twenty times.
Benefit’s of Barun-Mudra 
i) It makes our skin bright and beautiful.
ii) It prevents mental weakness.
iii) It also prevents the disease of the eye and increases the power of the eye.

j) Siva Mudra
In this Mudra, you have to join both the hands together. Then keep the left-hand thumb straight and then crossed all fingers with each other. Practice this Posture fifteen to twenty times. Don’t practice this posture more than twenty times.
Benefit’s of Siva-Mudra 
i)It prevents lung disease.
ii) It reduce the fat from our body.

k) Holding breath posture
In this posture, when you inhale breath you have to apply pressure upon the thumb finger with an Index finger. It can be practice at any time. But practicing this exercise in Padma-asana or Sukha-asana will get better results.
Benefits of Holding breath posture i) It increase the power of holding breath.
